Giant Magazine Folds

Radio One, owner of urban publication Giant Magazine, has announced that the print edition will cease publication after the upcoming issue is released to newsstands. Sources told AllHipHop.com that factors in the magazine’s demise included the economic downturn, as well as media dollars being shifted away from print magazines to Internet properties. The Giant brand will continue to operate under Radio One’s subsidiary company, Interactive One. Interactive One was launched in 2008 to compliment Radio One’s portfolio of digital properties, which include BlackPlanet.com, NewsOne.com and Hellobeautful.com. Giantlife.com will launch with an exclusive video series featuring Alicia Keys. “Suspending the print vehicle marks the end of an era, but I am thrilled with the opportunity to bring more Celebrity, Style and Culture to our audiences through my exclusive video series, and other integrated rich media opportunities,” said Interactive One’s Chief Content Officer, Smokey Fontaine. Alicia Keys is featured on Giant Magazine's final cover of the print edition, which lands on newsstands December 15th.

Ross on 50’s Sales: "R.I.P. We Buried Him"

Now that 50 Cent’s disappointing first week numbers are official, rival Rick Ross is now claiming victory in their 2009 feud. In a recent concert for DJ Khaled’s birthday, Ross proclaimed full credit for 50 Cent’s lowest debut week (Before I Self Destruct: 161,000) of his previously multi-platinum career. “So we celebrating my n***a birthday, but we’re also celebrating the demise of a p***y. R.I.P. to the donkey, we buried him,” Ross stated on stage with Khaled. “It feel good, n***a. Don’t look surprised, you knew we was gonna do it. There’s only one record that can describe the feeling.” Concluding his victory speech, Ross went into “This Is the Life,” the fourth single from his 2008 gold sophomore LP Trilla. At press time, Rick Ross is working on his fourth album Teflon Don, set to be released in Spring 2010.

Lil Wayne Doc 'The Carter' Shoots To #1 on iTunes

A controversial new documentary about superstar rapper Lil Wayne has shot to the top of the iTunes movie charts. QD3 Entertainment’s film The Carter is currently the No. 1 selling documentary on iTunes in the U.S. In addition to landing the top slot on Apple's iTunes U.S.’ music store, The Carter is also in the Top 10 on the Canadian iTunes music store alongside such blockbusters as Bruno and GI Joe. “Having our Lil Wayne The Carter documentary place in the Top 10 on both U.S. and Canadian iTunes store within the first 48 hours, competing neck and neck with multi-million dollar studio films such as Bruno and GI Joe during Christmas season is quite a feat for a self distributed indie doc and beyond our expectations,” QD3 Entertainment CEO Quincy Jones III told AllHipHop.com. “We are very excited about continuing to innovate within the digital space.” The Carter was released on November 17th and is an in depth look at the personal and professional life of rapper Lil Wayne.

Lil Boosie: "I Need Some Rehab. Jail Is Not Rehab."

After initially stating his forthcoming prison sentence would be beneficial to his career, Louisiana emcee Lil’ Boosie is now remorseful and saddened about the term that will keep him behind bars for an estimated two years. Boosie, real name Torrence Hatch, was originally convicted of a third offense for marijuana possession. The jail term was then exacerbated when Boosie violated his house arrest order to complete two concert dates. According to Boosie, his sentencing was based on his rap persona over his actual behavior, which was simply to provide support for his 7 children and another still to be born. Also, the rapper had been sued before for not fulfilling show dates, and wanted to prevent any further legal complications before going to prison. “If I made a mistake with marijuana, why am I not eligible for rehab?” Boosie questioned. “I’ve been on marijuana since a teenager. I need some rehab. Jail is not rehab.”

Rick Ross Teams With Nick Cassavetes For Feature Film

Former drug kingpin Rick Ross has teamed with Emmy Award winning actor and writer Nick Cassavetes, who will help produce and write a screenplay based on Ross’ life. Ross and Cassavetes are working in conjunction with the Geno Taylor and Apocalypto Films to write and produce the screenplay to Ross' life, which will reveal the truth about his Los Angeles upbringing, his struggle to become financially literate, his time behind bars and his journey to becoming educated. "I love working with Nick, I think he’s great I love his films,” Rick Ross told AllHipHop.com in a statement. “He and I really vibed the first time we met and I think he truly understands the story. Not only has he been following my life for 25 years but he’s also someone I can kick it with!" Cassavetes is known for directing such critically acclaimed films as The Notebook (2004), Alpha Dog (2006), and My Sister's Keeper (2009). “Freeway Ricky Ross is a living American legend, a modern day street genius,” Cassavetes added. “To not know his story is to not understand our country.”

Beanie Drops New Diss 'How I Could Kill Jigga Man'

Philadelphia DJ Cosmic Kev debuted two brand new tracks by rapper Beanie Sigel tonight (November 21st) during his radio show on Power 99 FM. While the first track only contains one line about Jay-Z, the second track is sure to raise eye brows. On the second track, Sigel issued another harsh freestyle aimed at Jay-Z, this time dropping a verse over Cypress Hill’s hit “How I Could Just Kill a Man” renaming the song “How I Could Kill Jigga Man.” Sigel’s opening lines make use of Jay-Z’s signature battle song “Takeover,” which was originally a diss record to Jay-Z’s old nemesis, Nas and Mobb Deep. “You aint gonna say nothing boy?” Sigel says at the end of the song taunting Jay-Z. “Damn, I thought you was the boy, boy. You aint nothing but a boy, boy boy. I aint gonna stop boy.”
