Sometime in 2006, I received a tip from a music insider. His email was brief but it grabbed my attention. Nas was planning to release an album titled EN-EYE-GEE-GEE-A. I laughed it off as a weird rumor from a rando. Fast forward to 2007, I'm wiping egg off my face. Nas announces that he plans to release an album titled...no, not N-Bomb, but the more incendiary version of the racial epithet—the one that ends in -er. After months of protests from labels, politicians and Walmart, Nas reluctantly changed his mind. He decided to forgo a title altogether.
