I don't know what you were doing at 10, but I was rapidly turning the dial on my grandmother's radio and wondering how songs get on the radio. As an adult, I finally have the answer and it's depressing. In writing and researching this piece, I was surprised by the breadth of the music industry's systemic bias against independent artists.
